Custom Epoxy Terrazzo Floor in the lobby of the new high-end

QT Hotel in Auckland’s Viaduct.

OVERVIEW

Solid Floors was engaged by Dominion Interiors to design and install a custom epoxy terrazzo floor in the lobby of the new high-end QT Hotel in Auckland’s Viaduct.

The designers were after a very specific look, having chosen samples based on a product supplied out of Australia. As this was unavailable on the local market, Solid Floors was tasked with sourcing and designing a matching floor based on photos supplied.

Through our network of stone and aggregate suppliers, Solid Floors sourced different coloured aggregates to cast in numerous samples for the interior designers until the final three samples were chosen.

The products used for the job were a mix of locally supplied but internationally sourced aggregates, mixed with Mapei’s epoxy resin binder tinted specifically for each individual colour requirement.

The installation was undertaken over the course of a week, on night works so as to allow other trades access during the day.

Terrazzo flooring systems require careful grinding and polishing to ensure that the finish is up to a high standard. Solid Floors takes care of the finishing process with their own in-house grinding and polishing team, using HTC technology. Undertaking this important part of the process ourselves means we can guarantee the highest quality finish for our clients.

SUMMARY

Solid Floors were engaged by Dominion Interiors to design and install a custom epoxy terrazzo floor in the lobby of the new high-end QT Hotel in Auckland’s Viaduct.

Solid Floors developed 3 custom blends of terrazzo to meet the designers specific design brief using locally and internationally sourced aggregate and resin.

Mapei resin was the binder of choice – tinted to a specific colour for each blend.

Installation was undertaken at night to avoid disruption to other trades working on-site during the day time.

The careful process of grinding and polishing the terrazzo was undertaken by Solid Floors’ in-house grinding team, ensuring a high-quality finish for our clients.
